Andrea earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL in Psychology, and a Master’s of Arts from the University of Minnesota in Speech-Language Pathology.
After graduate school, she had the opportunity to work for the Scottish RiteCare Language Clinic in Elk River, MN. She also has 4 years experience with the early intervention program in Grand Forks, the Anne Carlsen Infant Development program.
Professionally, she has published a research article using speech-generated devices in the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology (November 2010). She had the opportunity to participate in the Family-Centered Natural Environment Project for a year with Dr. Juliann Woods from Florida State University. She is also highly trained and certified in the Hanen It Takes Two to Talk® Program, the Hanen More than Words® Program, and the Hanen Target Word® Program designed to support parents of children with language delays, children on the autism spectrum, and late talkers. She has extensive training & advanced courses with Dr. Kay Toomey in the Sequential Oral Sensory© (S.O.S) feeding program. Additionally, Andrea has training and experience using Hodson’s Cycles Approach to phonological patterns, video modeling, iPad training and instruction, routines-based intervention, and recently attended a conference by Temple Grandin.
Andrea loves the speech-language pathology profession and thrives on continuously learning new things and keeping up with the latest evidence-based research. As a mom, she strongly believes in the importance of involving parents in therapy to help children excel across all environments at home, in school, at childcare, and in the community. She believes that parental involvement is vital to a child’s success with treatment. Andrea is actively involved in the community and participates in the local autism support group, the Down syndrome support group, Special Olympics, and community events such as the Tummy to Toddler Expo, the Buddy Walk, and the Hands On Learning Fair. Andrea has a passion for empowering parents to help their child become a successful communicator, she truly loves working with children & exudes enthusiasm in all her therapy sessions.
